Open year-round, Leesburg Animal Park is a popular site for families and animal lovers in Virginia. With dozens of animals from all over the world (mostly outside, but with a few indoor exhibits), an indoor playground, live shows, a gift shop, and more, there’s plenty to do.
But in the fall the fun kicks up a notch with Pumpkin Village, Leesburg Animal Park’s autumn festival. The outdoor fall festival (included in the park admission) more than doubles the activities guests can enjoy. Hayrides, moon bounces, inflatable games, two kids’ zip lines, pony rides, lawn games, cider and apple samples, and hay mazes add to the pedal carts, playhouse village, giant hill slides, and other attractions. On weekends, there is live entertainment with some of the area’s top children’s and family entertainers, and camel rides.
This year Pumpkin Village takes place September 15-November 6, 2018. The park has generously donated four passes so one lucky Fairfax Family Fun reader can visit for free! See the end of this post for details on how to enter.

Leesburg Animal Park sits on 21 acres, but most of its wild residents are concentrated in specific areas so you can visit just about all of them during a short walk. Outdoors, wild and barnyard animals include cows, goats, sheep, lambs, pigs, horses, deer, llamas, donkeys, chickens, zebras, camels, gibbons, serval cats, bunnies, ducks, and more. Inside, there are more creatures, including lemurs, a sloth, and snakes, iguanas, and other reptiles.

On weekends you can (for a small extra fee) ride a pony or a camel. If you want to just visit, you can see another camel up close.

There are many opportunities to meet the animals up-close. In one area, you can roam among sheep, goats, and other barnyard animals, petting them and feeding them. The pond area near the hayride station also has food dispensers so you can feed the ducks and geese.

The pedal carts are one of the most popular areas, with a nice-sized track and carts of different sizes to accommodate kids of various ages and heights.
The playhouse village includes several tiny houses that you can explore. These also make ideal settings for fun fall photos!
If the weather gets too cold, you can always take a break inside. The resident sloth reminds us it’s good to slow down sometimes!
Inside also are tables for eating or taking a break, a discovery room where kids can make crafts, and a nice playground with tunnels and slides.
