Thanks to Oriental Trading Company for inviting us to review its holiday products.
By Amy Holmes for Fairfax Family Fun
I typically wait until the last minute to get ready for Valentine’s Day. On February 13th, I will make a trip to the store to pick up valentines for my children to share with their classmates and I pick up things for the family when the pickings are slim. Not this year. There will be no last-minute scramble because I got my Oriental Trading Company catalog which features everything you would need to celebrate this fun holiday. I placed my initial order, it arrived in days, and I’m off to a great 2017.
My fourth grader loves Valentine’s Day! She wanted to go all-out for her friends and classmates. For the classroom exchange, we ordered three dozen of the plush penguins with a heart. They are absolutely adorable and with the (Pittsburgh) penguins being one of her favorite animals, she felt this was the perfect way to share the love with her friends in her class. Our order covered her entire class with a few extra to give her besties and her sister.
Oriental Trading has many cute Valentine cards to choose from but she particularly liked that “we go together” Valentine’s cards (with combinations such as peanut butter and jelly or milk and cookies) so we ordered three dozen.
For my sixth grader, Valentine’s candy is key. We ordered the M&M’s mini Valentine fun packs. They come in packs of 28 and are reasonably priced at 5.99 for the lot. This valentine’s exchange is simple: You write the name of the person you are giving it to and your name right on the package — simple and easy and a great exchange gift.
One of our family traditions is to bake heart-shaped sugar cookies, have a few friends over, and decorate them. I’m thrilled that they are carrying the Peanuts line with Snoopy and friends for Valentine’s Day so I ordered the peanuts Valentine dessert plates and the peanuts Valentine beverage napkins. Add a red tablecloth, and you have a festive cookie event. I also recommend taking a look at the crafts that they offer. If you are looking for Valentine’s crafts for classroom, scout or neighborhood parties, this is the place. Have fun!
