Tractors, forklifts, trash trucks, fire trucks, you name it: if it’s a big vehicle, chances are good that some kid would love to get up close to it to explore it. People of all ages, but especially young children, seem to enjoy these vehicles and that is why touch-a-truck events are so popular.
At these events — often they are fundraisers for schools, non-profit organizations, or moms’ clubs, but sometimes they’re open houses for public-works departments — guests can see the large vehicles up close, pose for photos, learn about what they’re used for, and sometimes meet the drivers. Many times, they also get to sit inside the vehicles and even sound the horns. Beyond trucks themselves, most touch-a-truck events also include other types of vehicles, such as ambulances, limousines, buses, and helicopters. Some also offer other activities, entertainment, and gifts for the kids.
If you’re looking for a touch-a-truck event in Virginia, you’re in luck: every year, especially in the spring and summer, there are at least a dozen such events around here. We recently updated our annual list of touch-a-truck events. For 2017, we already have dates for events in Annandale, Herndon, Sterling, and Ashburn. Take a look!
