Thanksgiving is coming in just about six weeks! Maybe you love cooking a big meal at home and everything that comes with it: the pride and joy, the aromas of the food… and even the mess and the hassle and the clean-up. But for families who don’t have the time or the space or the inclination to prepare a big meal at home, dining out at Thanksgiving is an option. And it’s more common than you might think, with more than 15 million people in the United States eating out at restaurants on Thanksgiving night.
Several restaurants in Northern Virginia offer this option, with some preparing a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings and others using the holiday as an opportunity to present creative menus. I recently wrote an article for Posh Seven Magazine about where to eat out locally on Thanksgiving: more than a dozen choices, from upscale restaurants to more casual spots, and even some catering companies for the in-between option when you’d like to enjoy a professionally prepared meal in the comfort of your own home.
This article is in the “Decadence” issue of the magazine, and what can be more decadent than dessert? Holidays are a time to indulge, so I also wrote an article about some of the best bakeries, pastry shops, and specialty dessert retailers in Northern Virginia. The list of 18 top bakeries in Northern Virginia reflects the diversity of this area, with places offering French, Bavarian, Swiss, Turkish, Korean, Persian, Filipino, and other desserts alongside traditional American treats.
Happy Thanksgiving and happy eats!
