Cox Farms Fall Festival Bonus Days, (Monday and Tuesday)
Monday and Tuesday, 11/5-11/6, Cox Farms in Centreville will be open for two more days of the Fall Festival! It’s about the same as the regular festival now (except the hayride goes through the barn but it’s not “haunted”), meaning you still can enjoy stuff like playing on the giant slides, tunnels and play forts, rope swings, and more; visiting farm animals, enjoying live music by the Patty Reese Band, and getting some great photo opps. Plus, the farm store has some items on sale, like 50% off their pumpkin butter jars! Admission is $9 per person for everyone age 2 and up, and times are 10 am to 5 pm (last admission at 4 pm).
University Mall Theaters Discounted Movies, (both days; $2 on Tuesdays)
University Mall Theaters is always a great place to catch up on recent movies, and regular prices at this cozy, old-fashioned theater are just $4 per person and $3 for kids under 14 (and on “two-buck Tuesdays,” all tickets all day are just $2 each!). With three PG-rated movies this week (Paranorman, Brave, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days), this could be a great time to do a little movie marathon! (PG-13 films this week are The Bourne Legacy and Total Recall.) The theater is in Fairfax right across from George Mason University.
Riverbend Park One-Day Camps, (Monday and Tuesday)
Fairfax County Park Authority is offering two special one-day camps at Riverbend Park in Great Falls during teacher workdays. The Monday Volunteer Service Camp is for teens (13-17) and the Tuesday Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Geysers camp is for older kids and tweens (8-12); both camps begin at 9 am. At Monday’s volunteer service camp, teens will help park naturalists with habitat restoration, trail maintenance and wildlife surveys at Riverbend Park. They will earn six hours of community service and provide meaningful support while learning about the ecology of Riverbend. At Tuesday’s camp, kids will explore our ever- changing earth, become part of the rock cycle and examine rock and mineral specimens, plus make a volcano, watch a geyser in action and conduct earthquake experiments. Details and registration at the link above.
