Historic Garden Week
Each spring, visitors are welcomed to more than 250 of Virginia’s most beautiful gardens, homes and historic landmarks during “America’s Largest Open House.” This 8-day statewide event provides visitors a unique opportunity to see unforgettable gardens at the peak of Virginia’s springtime color. Tour proceeds fund the restoration and preservation of Virginia’s historic gardens and support educational programs.

Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival
This long-running festival in nearby historic Winchester has more than 30 events such as: band competitions, dances, parades (including the world’s largest firefighters’ parade), a carnival, circus, 10K Race, and more fun the whole family can enjoy.

Springfest Fairfax
Annual day of family fun celebrating spring with kids’ activities including pony rides, a petting zoo, reptile show, face painting, moon bounces, food vendors, and more at its new location, Sully Historic Site.

Walker Nature Center Spring Festival
Walker Nature Center hosts its annual Spring Festival on May 6, a free community event with fun for all ages. The festival will have indoor and outdoor exhibits from multiple organizations, plus entertainment, craft-making for kids and native plants for sale, plus activities on Lake Audubon.

Occoquan Riverfest
This annual event at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton is a celebration of the outdoors, with a full day (10 am-4 pm) of activities for the whole family. There’s no admission charge and there are even complimentary boat rides on the Occoquan River. Other activities include nature demos, a children’s midway ($5 for a wristband), live animals, stream science, a kids’ fishing event, a nature hike, and conservation and educational opportunities.

Fair Lakes SpringFest
The Fair Lakes League invites the community for a free afternoon of sun at SpringFest. The annual event is a celebration to bring the Fair Lakes community together and includes entertainment, food, and exhibitors.
