How can you take a well-loved, legendary musical and make it even better? Reston Community Players (RCP) have come up with some ideas! The all-volunteer community theatre group is currently presenting Mary Poppins. This fun show makes for a great “family date” (see our detailed review from opening weekend) and you can enjoy it during a matinee or evening show now through March 12, 2016.
To make the show more accessible to all patrons and to let the community join in on the fun, RCP is hosting two special events: a sensory friendly Mary Poppins performance, and a master class when anyone can learn the dance from the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious scene. See below for details!
RCP is hosting a sensory-friendly performance on Saturday, February 27, at 2 pm. This is the first such event for Reston Community Players. This performance is geared to families of children with autism or with other disabilities that create sensory sensitivities and will include lower sound levels, lower or smoother lighting, and more, including space throughout the theatre for standing and movement. Tickets are the regular matinee price of $20 for students and $23 for adults.
Want to learn the master dance number of the show, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious? Immediately following the matinee show on March 6, RCP will offer everyone the opportunity to join Mary Poppins cast members in a special master dance class to learn this routine. Dancers do not need to attend that performance to join the master class. Tickets ($10 for the class only are available online or at the box office.
All activities take place at Center Stage at the Reston Community Center at 2310 Colts Neck Road in Reston.
