I had the pleasure of going to the Disney on Ice presents Follow Your Heart on opening night at the Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax Virginia this past Wednesday. I’ve enjoyed going to several Disney on Ice shows over the past 10 years with my daughters and I have to say, this was one of the very best Disney on Ice shows I’ve seen. Nana came along with me and my daughters aged 11 and 10. We all truly enjoyed the show and felt there was something for everyone (this production of Disney on Ice, by the way, continues with daily performances locally until October 23, 2016).
The show opened with a party rock jam with Riley and her school friends from the cast of the movie Inside Out. My girls were dancing and I felt like I was clubbing with my tweens. We loved watching the little kids dancing throughout the show. We enjoyed several numbers featuring the cast of Inside Out, Finding Dory, Disney’s first family: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, the Disney Princesses and their boyfriends, and Frozen.
I think I am the only person who missed the Disney on Ice show based on the movie Frozen when it came around, so I was thrilled that they close the show with three numbers with the Frozen cast before the All-Star finale. The show was spectacular and memorable and all of the skaters were great.
Amy’s “insider tips:”
- Don’t forget to wear your Disney costumes! We loved looking at the little kids who were all dressed up in their princess and other Disney costumes. Even adults came prepared with their Mickey ears and Disney park t-shirts.
- Bring money for the concessions! They have so much wonderful Disney merchandise to purchase. I always let my girls buy at least one thing and they love the Dory and Olaf Snow Cone cups. My youngest also bought a very elaborate Disney on Ice Frozen themed light-up snowflake scepter. Even at 10, she’s enjoying being princess at the house well after the event.
- Think about attending this or a future Disney on Ice event as a Girl Scout Troop if you are involved in Girl Scouts. This would be a perfect and fun event for Daisy, Brownie, and even Junior troops to get together and have a fun social night out. Check the Girl Scout chapters of the nation’s capital website: I understand they even offer a fun patch with your reservation!
- The show goes a full two hours. If you are bringing little ones, have them wear their Disney pajamas so you can transition from the show to their car seat straight to bed.
