Independence Day in the nation’s capital was a wet, breezy, and cloudy one in 2016, but the skies cleared up just enough to see most local fireworks show go on as planned that evening, even if they weren’t the best, causing a big network to improvise on its broadcast. Even so, there are a few more opportunities coming up so see big fireworks shows, so if you “sat out” any of the other festivals or just want to see another fireworks display in better weather (fingers crossed!) plan for these events in Northern Virginia:
Tuesday, July 5
Town of Vienna Fireworks Show: The Town of Vienna made the call early on to postpone the July 4 fireworks show to its rain date “due to safety reasons.” They will now take place tonight, July 5, at 9:30 pm at the town’s Yeonas Park. Admission is free.
Saturday, July 9
Alexandria & USA Birthday Celebration: The City of Alexandria always celebrates the country’s and its own (267th) birthdays around one week after Independence Day. The free event, 7-10 pm, includes live orchestra music, birthday cake, food vendors, and the fireworks display performed to Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” with cannon firings.
Saturday, July 9
International Country Club Fireworks: If you are in the Chantilly area near Greenbrier Shopping Center on Route 50 you may be able to see the fireworks at International Country Club, which were postponed to July 9. They usually start after 9 pm.
