Big news: yesterday, Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia (near Richmond) made major announcements that will delight both kids and adults. If you’re not familiar with the theme park, see our most recent and original posts about it, and our latest special feature on shows and non-ride attractions. If you already know Kings Dominion well, get ready to enjoy it even more! In 2017, you can look forward to new rides, really useful freebies, and other helpful features. Here they are:
Three new rides in Planet Snoopy
The world’s largest PEANUTS™-themed children’s area is growing again! Kings Dominion announced plans to expand the 14-acre Planet Snoopy area of the park in 2017. Additions include three family rides, a new event space, and upgraded food and beverage locations. The brand new family-friendly rides will be “Kite Eating Tree” (a mild drop tower), Sally’s Sea Plane (an airplane that rotates), and Peanuts™500, a closed race track where kids and parents can ride together.
Free admission for kids age 3-5
Starting in 2017, though, preschoolers can experience all the fun of Planet Snoopy and the rest of the park for free with the Kings Dominion Pre-K Pass! The pass will grant complimentary admission to children ages three to five years for the entire 2017 season. Online registration for the Pre-K Pass is available now, and you don’t have to wait until 2017 to enjoy it: the Pre-K Pass includes one free visit during the fall of 2016 to enjoy the Great Pumpkin Fest in Planet Snoopy which begins on September 24 (see the park website for more information).
Coming soon: free wifi, an updated app, and more
This one will make many people happy: starting in 2017, Kings Dominion will offer free park-wide wifi! The park has not yet announced details about this, but free wifi is a feature that undoubtedly will be useful for park-goers looking to stay in touch, Pokemon fans looking to “hunt” during breaks, and yes, bloggers and social media folks who post often during a visit. The park also announced it will update its mobile app with a “more user-friendly interface,” listed wait times for rides, and other useful features. Kings Dominion also will launch FunPix, a system that will help park guests collect memories all season long by buying unlimited digital photos for one price. Details on that program are forthcoming.
