Calling all fans of Hot Wheels: this means many kids AND their parents! If you’ve ever wished you had a Hot Wheels car in real life, here’s your chance to at least see one — the Hot Wheels Legends tour is coming to Northern Virginia this week!
Hot Wheels launched the original “Sweet 16” die-cast cars in 1968, and now, in honor of the 50th anniversary, its Legends tour brings real-life replicas to 15 cities. Dulles, Virginia is on the list, with the tour stopping at a Walmart near Washington-Dulles International Airport (24635 Dulles Landing Drive, Dulles, Virginia 20166) on Saturday, October 6, 2018, 8 am to 11 am.
When Hot Wheels launched the line, these were conceived to be more like “tricked out” cars, unlike other die-cast cars at the time, which resembled actual vehicles from the time. The “Sweet 16” cars included models based on Chevrolet, Mercury, Cadillac, Pontiac, Volkswagen, and other makes of vehicles with unique Hot Wheels twists.
The Hot Wheels Legends tour seeks to find custom cars that are worthy of joining the Sweet 16 as a legendary vehicle. Owners of tricked-out custom cars can enter each local competition, with the winner selected based on authenticity, originality, and the “garage spirit.” The 15 finalists then have a chance to become a real Hot Wheels Legend, with the vehicle transformed into a die-cast car sold around the world.
During each Hot Wheels Legends event, the public can enjoy a life-size fleet of Hot Wheels cars, 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels Anniversary Edition cars, photo opportunities, a Hot Wheels Kids Zone, the Microsoft Forza Gaming Zone, a historical die-cast display, and more. General admission is free. Find out more on the Hot Wheels Legend website and the Facebook page for the local event.
