One of Northern Virginia’s biggest community festivals is this weekend: the Herndon Festival! This four-day event, celebrating its 37th year, combines a carnival with music, art, fireworks, and more. The Herndon Festival takes place Thursday through Sunday, June 1-4, 2017, in downtown Herndon.
The festival includes carnival rides, live entertainment on multiple stages, an arts and crafts show, business expo, food, 5K/10K races and more. A special Kids’s Alley has plenty of options for hands-on art on Saturday and Sunday, and the festival closes out its Thursday and Saturday nights with a fireworks show. In addition, there is a model train display on Saturday and Sunday.
The official festival brochure online has a full schedule for each day, a bright and easy-to-use festival map, information on transportation, details on the daily entertainment, and useful festival tips.
Festival hours are 6 pm-10 pm on Thursday, 5 pm-11 pm on Friday, 10 am-11 pm on Saturday, and 10 am-6pm on Saturday. Admission is free for this “rain or shine” event. If your kids love carnival rides, consider the all-you-can-ride wristband offer. While festival admission is free, carnival rides have become very pricey, and if your kids want to ride more than three or so (as most kids do!) this turns out to be a great deal: for just $16 per person, you can enjoy unlimited rides 6-10 pm on Thursday or 10 am-2 pm on Saturday; all-day wristbands on Sunday are $24.
Since single tickets are $1.25 and most rides take 4-5 tickets, this can be a good deal. You can purchase the wristbands for Thursday ahead of time at the Herndon Community Center. Saturday and Sunday wristbands can only be purchased on-site at the carnival.
