Okay, here’s the deal: When I started Fairfax Family Fun, my goal was to focus solely on Fairfax County, Virginia. I created this site because I kept “discovering” things around town and sharing them with friends. While I later ran across a couple of sites that provided suggestions for family activities in the area, they covered the whole metro DC region. These are great resources on their own, but with such a large area to cover, they didn’t get so “into the weeds” of what we had out here in the deeper suburbs.
I decided to share with a larger audience all the information I’d been collecting and passing on to friends for a couple of years. With so much to do in Fairfax County (and other sites covering other counties or the region as a whole), I knew I’d never run out of ideas for activities and events close to home. More than three years later, that is still true. Focusing on Fairfax County and its bordering communities continues to provide countless ideas every single day for family fun.
As readership, particularly on our Facebook page, has grown, though, I’m often asked about places to visit close by. And of course all of us, even those who don’t take our immediate neighborhood for granted, do travel in the area and beyond. It’d be a shame not to share those great discoveries as well. In this section, therefore, I will start to share some of those day trips, easy weekend getaways, and other ideas for family fun away from home.
Fairfax County IS and will continue to be home and will always remain the priority and focus of this site. But we all need to get away from it all sometimes. When that time comes for you, I hope you can find some fun ideas on these pages!
