Another sure sign that summer is almost here: area spraygrounds are getting ready to welcome kids ready for a splashin’ good time! Our local Northern Virginia shopping centers and parks with splash fountains or spraygrounds are popular with young kids of just about any age, but they’re an especially good choice for children just getting used to water play, since the fountains are fun and not as intimidating as a swimming pool can be. They’re also fun and quick “pit stops” for parents on warm days to give kids a chance to cool off while you’re out and about.
The Fairfax Corner shopping center has one of the most popular interactive fountains on its plaza across from the movie theatre. The Fairfax Corner fountain is set to re-open for the season on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. The Splash Fountain Re-opening Celebration starts at noon and will feature water play, face painting, balloon twisters, chess games on the town green, giveaways, and more. The event is free and sponsored by Inova Children’s Hospital. And mark your calendars for May 11, the return of the Little Tots entertainment series!
Also note: Little Tots, the free weekly entertainment series for kids, returns to Fairfax Corner May 11 through August 31. Each Wednesday at 10:30 families can enjoy a show (music, magic, comedy, science, and more). Returning this year are series regulars such as musicians Peter McCory and Rocknoceros and animal show such as Reptiles Alive and Wildlife Ambassadors. The schedule for 2016 is posted!
