For the next few weeks, visitors to Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax will be able to take a virtual trip to Peru through a special exhibit, and the community is invited to the kick-off celebration this Friday, Aug. 22. EXPERIENCE PERU, which will continue at Fair Oaks through September 18, is an interactive exhibit presented in partnership with PromPeru: The Commission on the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism.
Offering “a spectacular interactive glimpse of Peru,” the installation features a 20′ X 30′ exhibit of fabled Machu Picchu for guests to visit, photograph and enjoy. Machu Picchu, the Incan citadel, was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a 2007 international internet global poll.
The exhibit’s 3D displays walled by Intihuatana stones will encompass fascinating displays and interactive Ad Pod touch screens visitors can use to test their knowledge of Peru, search for hidden QR codes, listen for Peruvian birds, and be on the lookout for the ghost of Pachacuti. EXPERIENCE PERU highlights the country’s remarkable regions, from the arid plains of the Pacific coast to the peaks of the Andes Mountains and the tropical forests of the Amazon basin.
The exhibit opens with a community celebration Aug. 22 in the Mall’s Grand Court West at 11 am, featuring remarks by Erika Lizardo, Counselor, counselor with the Embassy of Peru; award-winning Peruvian musicians Yuyarinaypaq; and Sentimiento Peruano, which will perform and teach national folk dances of Peru. Guests also can enjoy Peruvian refreshments including empanadas and causitas con pollo. The event is free and open to the public. Fair Oaks Mall is off I-66 at Route 50.
