Who says you have to wait until fall to enjoy some football? Next weekend you’ll have a chance to root on your beloved home team — and no, we’re not talking the Redskins. We mean the DC Divas, one of the most well-known and successful teams in women’s tackle football.
They’ll play their first game ever in Virginia on Saturday, June 21 for a league playoff. The National Conference Quarterfinal Game takes place at 6 pm at Falls Church High School. Come watch these ladies play a real game — this is women’s full-contact football — and cheer on the team that has been the division champ for 11 out of the past 12 years (the most in women’s football history)!
The D.C. Divas were founded in 2000 as one of 10 charter franchises in the National Women’s Football Association. They made their full-contact football debut in the spring of 2001. Now in their 14th season of play, they are the third-longest running franchise in women’s football history after the Minnesota Vixen and the New York Sharks. The players, from their early 20s to their mid-40s, come from a variety of professional and athletic backgrounds, but all have one thing in common: they love football! They also all make the team happen: much like Olympic athletes, they still must raise funds to play and sustain the team.
Of course, they count on community support as well, so plan to be there at their June 21st game! DC Divas games are family fun and affordable. Kids age 6 and under are FREE, and students 7 to 17 are just $5; tickets for adults are $15 ($12 for for fire/police/seniors/military). Everyone has a chance to connect with the players on the field after the game, which is another unique part of the experience for young and old (doors open at 5 pm for the June 21st game). See the flyer below, find out more on the team’s website, and keep up with them on Facebook.
Thanks a lot for the mention! The D.C. Divas are very, very excited to bring our team to Virginia for the very first time.
We hope all of you come out to Falls Church to see us next Saturday…we think you’ll be impressed with the team we have and how well we play football. Plan to join us and have a good time!
Thanks again!
Happy to help! Come visit our neck of the woods more often! 🙂
