Spring is here and many families are getting outdoors more — and this coming week is an especially good times to do so as the National Park Service (NPS) and National Park Foundation celebrate National Park Week, April 15-23, 2017.
Highlights of the annual celebration include:
- Free admission on the weekends of April 15–16 and 22–23: All national parks will give you free admission
- Junior Ranger Day on April 15, with many fun programs happening at parks across the country
- Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, when some parks will host volunteers for special projects
- Park Rx Day on Sunday, April 23, to encourage visitors to get healthy and active in a national park with a ranger-led program or with family and friends (learn more about Park Rx Day)
National parks in or near Northern Virginia include Great Falls and Shenandoah — if you’re up for a road trip, see the NPS site so you can find your park!
