Happy Birthday, Fairfax County! Our beloved hometown celebrates its 275th anniversary, and to mark the milestone, the county is hosting a full day of fun on Saturday, June 17, 2017. That signature celebration, the biggest event in honor of the occasion, takes place on the grounds of the historic Fairfax Courthouse.
From 10 am to 4 pm, guests can enjoy special exhibits, living history, performances, and family-friendly activities. Special guests include Nicholas Fairfax (14th Lord Fairfax of Cameron) and his wife Annabel, who are traveling from England for the Fairfax County’s 275th anniversary celebration.
Our community’s own “Lord and Lady Fairfax” will be announced through the annual awards program, too. Other special features of the celebration include Virginia’s WWI/WWII Anniversary Mobile, historic courthouse tours, and a Revolutionary War memorial plaque dedication ceremony. There will be a petting zoo, antique emergency vehicles, food trucks, and information tables for more than 80 organizations, attractions, and reenactment units showcasing Fairfax County’s neighborhoods, sites, and history. The event takes place rain or shine; admission is free. See festival details and map and more 275th anniversary events on the Fairfax275.com site.
